Born in The Hague (Den Haag), The Netherlands, on April 20th 1967, Van Barneveld initially joined darts’ only recognised organisation back then, the BDO.

Since dominating for a number of years, he eventually decided to join the PDC to battle with the likes of all-time great Phil Taylor.

After many more title triumphs, Barney is now one the most successful, and perhaps THE most loved, players on the tour.

Having battled the likes of John Lowe and Martin Adams in his early career, he still terrorises current stars on the oche such as Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright, Adrian Lewis and of course his long-term nemesis Taylor.

So, test your knowledge, and even learn more about him, by trying out our Raymond van Barneveld quiz!

Sam has written for a number of sports news websites over the years, including being chief darts writer at UK Open sponsors Coral bookies. With a love of all things darts, and writing about it, Sam is particularly fascinated in the more global aspect of the sport, and would love to see more stars emerge from 'lesser darting nations'.
